A theoretical physicist by training, Hans G. Schantz parlayed his scientific expertise into a career as an inventor with more than 40 patents, and he co-founded Q-Track Corporation where he served as CTO designing and selling indoor location systems that rely on low-frequency near-field wireless technology. Q-Track was acquired by Geeks and Nerds Corporation in 2019, where Dr. Schantz now serves as Principal Scientist. He is the author of The Art and Science of Ultrawideband Antennas, and the science fiction techno-thrillers, The Hidden Truth, A Rambling Wreck, and The Brave and the Bold. Hans lives in Huntsville, Alabama with his wife, and two sets of twins.

Is light a wave? Is light a particle? Is it a mutually contradictory blend of both at the same time? Or is there a simple account that explains how light works and resolves the paradox of wave-particle duality? Building on the conclusions of his recent paper on “Energy Velocity and Reactive Fields” (Phil Trans Royal Soc A 376, #2134, 2018), Dr. Schantz considers examples including the Poisson-Arago spot in the middle of the shadow of a circular disk, and the case of two-slit interference to illustrate in a clear and simple manner how wave-like fields guide particle-like energy.
Roundtable discussion of various and timely science topics moderated by Les Johnson. This is a remarkable panel dating back to the earliest LibertyCons. Everyone gets a say but no one gets to say too much.
