Stephen Fleming presents "Quantum Entanglement — no, it’s not FTL!"
Quantum entanglement — famously derided by Einstein as “spooky action at a distance” — was the basis of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics. There are many misconceptions about entanglement, ranging from the silly (Ant-Man’s “Quantumania”) to the misinformed (any book by Deepak Chopra). Even respected science writers publish articles stating that entanglement enables Faster-Than-Light (FTL) communication and even Star Trek-style transporters. In this talk, we’ll explore some of the myths and realities of quantum information sciences nd give some highlights of the nation’s first commercial quantum network being built right here in Chattanooga. It is my understanding that there will be no math in this presentation.
