Charles was a polymath, mathematician, philosopher, inventor, and mechanical engineer. Ada Lovelace was a mathematician, intuitive, beautiful, and non-conformist. Charles created a prototype of the first mechanical computer, which forms the basis of modern computer architecture. Point of View: Get it right
While pronouns are the most visible indicator of viewpoint, they are only the most elementary of building blocks. Narrative and temporal distance, filters, voice, and ultimately, depth, have far more to do with viewpoint in storytelling than pronouns. Readers may not be able to articulate the importance of viewpoint to their immersion and willingness to stay with a story, but problems with viewpoint will still cause them to put your story down. In this class we will cover how viewpoint can grab a reader, immerse them in your story, flesh out characters, worldbuild, create tension and conflict, and ultimately help you show a better a story.

HollyWeird Science
For science fiction productions, there is an implied bargain between the screenwriter and the audience: suspend your disbelief on one or two fantastic notions, and the rest of the story will be grounded in the believable. So the genre is predicated on the expectation of one or two key inaccuracies per story. In recent years, though, experts and fans have been nitpicking even the main story conceits of films like "Gravity", "Interstellar", and "The Martian". From the "anything goes" storytelling approach of the 1950's and 1960's sci-fi, Dr. Kevin Grazier explores whether or not the science accuracy pendulum of audience expectation has swung too far in the other direction.

Atlanta Radio Theatre Company (ARTC) will perform: “The Three Galaxateers” by Ron N. Butler – A sci-fi sit-com series inspired by the real-life WWII work of sci-fi writers Robert A. Heinlein, L. Sprague de Camp, and a very young Isaac Asimov. Today’s episode, “A Big Hand for the Little Doctor,” concerns the boys’ poker night...and new love interests. “A Case of Abuse” by Ron N. Butler – What would you do to be happy? And what might happiness do to you? This dystopian short takes a dark look at the notion of “being good” and asks the disturbing question, “Good for who?” “The Unicorn and the Univac” by Thomas Fuller – Myth meets machine in this sci-fi/fantasy blend that explores the clash between wonder and imagination, and cold, hard facts. “Pilgrim Souls” by Ellie Cook – Set in the rich world of celtic folklore, this is a classic Hero’s Journey undertaken by an old Irish woman armed with nothing but her wits, her courage, and her cane.
