It's a first contact story that starts about a million miles this side of Saturn. In it, a human crew accidentally kills the first alien they encounter while trying to save his life. This is followed by a steady parade of terrible decisions, including one in which John, a seventeen-year-old, steals the alien's spacecraft and gets lost outside of our galaxy. He must search through billions of stars for the one star that is his. Meanwhile, countless trillions of aliens suddenly decide to visit our solar system. Their numbers grow to the point that the earth is engulfed in a cloud of ships so vast it blocks out all sunlight. The Earth is in perpetual darkness.
