The Belters
Book 1 of 1: The Belters
In the far future, humanity has colonized the solar system, but only because the Belt – and those who live and do the dangerous work there – always provides...
Meet the Belters: the brave men, women, and robotics that mine the Solaris System’s Asteroid Belt in order to keep the system expanding and surviving.
Once humanity perfected shortrange warp drives, expanding throughout the system became a reality. But there’s still a lot of space in the Blackness between Planets, Lunars, and Suspended Cities, let alone outside the system itself. However, without the Belt and what can be mined from it – water, phosphorus, precious metals, and more – the system couldn’t survive, let alone thrive.
Mining has always been dangerous work, but mining in space takes the danger to a different level. There’s the pirate armada, headed by a succession of leaders entitled Boser Geist, who give miners the terrible choice of join or die. Stray rocks, comets, and space trash test every Belter’s speed with a patch kit or their ability to survive with only a spacesuit. But the giant space squids, the Kalalula, more than any other creatures in the system, have reason to hate humanity and have brutal ways of taking their revenge.
But there’s beauty, too, in the Belt, along with loyalty, bravery, and love. And Belter’s Luck favors the brave and the bold, oftentimes when they least expect it.
